Not content with the car still being off the road, the hard drive in the webserver died when the UPS failed to protect it from some power fluctuations. Cue Saturday afternoon run out to Novatech in Portsmouth to pick up a new HDD and a new UPS. My laptop is also working less and less, at the moment not even getting as far as the BIOS. As well as finding out that my MySQL data wasn’t backed up (although all the other content on this site was), the webserver seems to be running much slower using the new hard drive. I’ve got the data back into MySQL now, but have to make sure it gets backed up properly in the future. I also need to get the applications that were talking to it working again too. So all in all, things aren’t going very well.

The timing belt went on the car last night. I shall be spending much more time on public transport and feeling the weight of my wallet getting lighter every trip. £4.20 for a return trip – that’s a 20 minute ride each way, BTW.

Still, that’ll pale into insignificance once the bills for the repair work to the car arrive.
