Michelle and Tim’s wedding was a warm family affair with a reception in a 15th Century pub.
Their families were all staying in beautiful apartments in central Southampton, rented for the occasion. With a grand entrance hall and well appointed rooms, they were an ideal place to prepare for the big day! Having everyone together from very early in the day was a great idea: Both families were lively, witty and welcoming. There were small children at every turn, which was appropriate as Michelle and Tim are expecting a baby in the New Year.
Michelle was looked after expertly by her sisters, who did her hair and helped her dress – although there was a sense of mischief in the air as they did. Michelle had a bouquet of white roses, tied up with white ribbon and her dress had a delicate pattern picked out on the back.
The ceremony was at Southampton Registry Office. I captured this candid moment in the corridor before the ceremony; the couple grinning at each other wildly. Michelle and Tim walked into the room together and a few minutes later they were married. There was a fantastically serious look in their eyes as they exchanged vows.
The reception was at The Duke of Wellington in Southampton, a fantastic 15th Century pub and a conveniently short walk from the registry office! As if an ancient timbered room wasn’t enough, the couple had added some touches of their own. The place names were decorated with symbols that also helpfully indicated which meal options each guest had chosen. A heart-shaped sign was hung from the ancient oak door. They generously provided their guests (and their photographer!) with beer vouchers from a deck of cards featuring steam trains.
The upper room in the pub was packed with Michelle and Tim’s friends and family. I don’t think they could have fitted a single extra person in! It made for a great atmosphere during the meal and speeches, as everyone could hear easily and there was no hiding place for Tim as his father revealed the obligatory embarrassing childhood stories about him.
Michelle was understandably feeling tired as the day went on, and rested her head on her new husband’s shoulder. It was clear throughout the day just how much they love each other, but there was something about this peaceful moment that summed it all up for me.
