Lini and Huw’s wedding was a fusion of East and West, with Indian, Chinese and British influences.
Lini’s day started at Burpham Country House, which I soon discovered is actually pronounced “burfam”. The room was full of action as Lini was laced into her magnificent dress, and added jewellery brought over from India by her family. So it was a mad rush as everyone left for Arundel.
Arundel Town Hall is a lovely old building, right in the middle of the town. There’s a real sense of history, as the portraits of the town’s prominent citizens gaze down on you. Huw was waiting at the venue, greeting the guests as they arrived.
Lini was walked down the aisle by her father, looking very smart in his Naval uniform. Both Lini and Huw were overwhelmed by the emotion of the occasion; there were tears in their eyes as they exchanged vows.
As they walked back down the aisle, Lini and Huw’s guests blew bubbles around them.
The reception was held next door in the Chinese restaurant. As a big fan of Chinese food, I thought this was an awesome idea. The entire wedding party processed down the street together with Huw and Lini at the head. Waiting for them was the most chocolatey chocolate cake ever. I had to restrain myself from planting my face right in it.
Lini and Huw keep chickens, rescued from battery farms. The tables were named after their chickens and their dog, Svetlana. The speeches were informal and very touching. Having everyone so close together created an intimate and friendly atmosphere.
The entire wedding party then decamped to Swanbourne Lake, to mess around in boats. Lini even managed to get in and out of the boat safely with her splendid dress. I followed them in a second boat, powered by one of their ushers! Before long, almost everyone was on the lake rowing around and trying not to crash into each other.
We finished our time at Swanbourne Lake with some portraits as the sun was setting over the trees. One of the resident geese wanted to get in on the action too!
It was a real pleasure to spend time with Lini, Huw, their family and friends on their big day. Lini and Huw loved the photographs and sent me a thank you card that had a photograph of me taking their photograph during the wedding. Very meta!
