Flo and James’ wedding ceremony at Highcliffe Castle, Dorset, was touching and tearful. Flo had a very traditional English elegance, with pink roses in her bouquet and her hair. I love watching how people react when they see the bride in her dress for the first time. I photograph them as discreetly as possible, and let things unfold naturally.
I avoid using flash during a ceremony if possible, and happily the ceremony room at Highcliffe Castle has beautiful tall windows. Highcliffe Castle is a grand location, but it doesn’t feel austere. Flo and James’ friends and family were all definitely part of the very emotional ceremony.
The castle grounds provide plenty of space for formal and informal photographs. Flo and James wanted to have photos taken on the beach at Highcliffe Castle. The overcast day made for some peaceful, delicate and smoothly lit photos. I particularly enjoy playing with the point of focus on beaches: Between the sand, stones, sea and my subjects there is so much of interest.
Their reception was at the Old Vicarage pub in Christchurch, Dorset. Although the weather had got a little worse, the atmosphere in the marquee was great. I think this shows most in the photographs taken during the speeches: I try to capture the reactions of the audience as much as the speaker themselves.
