Great South Run – two weeks to go!

The Great South Run is just two weeks away tomorrow, so I thought I would update you on my training progress. In the last two weeks I’ve gone from one weekly 3 or 6 mile run to four runs of varying length a week. I’ve been following this training plan from Bupa, which is a twelve week plan. I started at week nine, which was certainly fairly tough, and my knees and legs are letting me know about it. The basic pattern is shorter runs in the week designed to develop stamina and pace, followed by a longer run at the weekend at “race pace.” Tomorrow will be my first attempt to run the full 10 miles. Hopefully I’ll finish it, and it will also give me an idea of what my time might be on the day. I might try tweeting and denting my progress as I go.

I have been touched at how many people have sponsored me, particularly people in the Ubuntu community and listeners to the Ubuntu podcast. I’ve raised more than I expected to, and have raised my target twice!

I’m running in aid of Help the Hospices, a great charity which supports the work of a range of hospices throughout the UK. If you would like to sponsor me please give here.
